We put the 'pack' in the word 'backpack'

When we challenged our employees and business partners to help us donate back-to-school backpacks for needy children, we had no idea how enthusiastically they would respond! We ended up collecting 336 backpacks FULL of school supplies such as pencils, notebooks, highlighters, crayons, glue sticks and more. The campaign was part of a metro-wide effort by an organization called A Precious Child; and while other, bigger companies might have exceeded our donation, we are pretty proud of our efforts.

We divided the company into teams and challenged them to “outdo” each other in the collection of materials, and the winning team was from our purchasing department, shown in a photo here. Left-to-right, they are Scott Castilian, Jessica Poirier, Michael Snider, Daryn Strop. Gigi Chesy and Margaret Drake. Congratulations to them and everyone else who made this such a successful event.

And by the way, according to the final numbers, Brookfield Residential finished third in the competition among Denver-area companies to donate the most backpacks (as measured by donations per employee).

Said Carina Martin, chief executive officer of A Precious Child, “A Precious Child was thrilled to receive Brookfield Residential’s donation of 336 backpacks filled with school supplies for children in need in our community. We are thankful for their participation in this year’s Fill A Backpack campaign. I would like to extend my congratulations to Brookfield Residential on placing third in our Fill A Backpack Corporate Challenge for Points Per Employee. Your donation helped us reach our goal of serving more than 17,000 disadvantaged and displaced children.”
